I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve just signed a contract with Greenleaf Book Group to publish my book based on Travel with Aging Parents!

The book, Planes, Canes, and Automobiles: Connecting with Your Aging Parents through Travel, grew out of the success of Travel with Aging Parents (www.travelwithagingparents.com), which is dedicated to the joys, the challenges, and the nuts and bolts of traveling with aging parents. Since its launch in August 2013, Travel with Aging Parents has amassed over 16,000 followers across several prominent social media platforms. This growing community includes 12,000 Facebook followers, who have an impressive 14% engagement rate.

Planes, Canes, and Automobiles offers advice on the emotional aspects of travel as well as “how to” advice on physically getting around (a topic of particular concern when traveling with seniors), answers readers’ questions, shares “Top 10” lists, presents information on discounts and other critical information, and covers where to go (and what to do when you get there).

Why is this book needed?

With 34+ million Americans caring for an older relative (and 44% of 45- to 55-year olds with at least one living parent and one child under age 21 living with them), the trend of traveling with an aging parent will continue to grow as nonelderly caregivers bring their senior parents with them on vacation.

I have six months to finish writing the book (with full editing along the way) and expect to publish towards the latter part of the first quarter of 2015. Keep an eye out for more details (and interview requests!) as the writing progresses!

Thank you to all my readers for believing in the mission of Travel with Aging Parents! Both Mom and I are thrilled to connect with even more people on this theme and take it to the next level!
