Although I’ve not given an update in a while, there has been a lot going on behind the scenes to finalize my book. The biggest news:

Planes, Canes, and Automobiles:

Connecting with Your Aging Parents Through Travel

publishes 10/6/15!

WOO HOO!!!

It’s amazing to think back to this time last year – I was soliciting agents and publishers for their interest in my book. Now, it’s working its way to print! Crazy! Anyway, to catch you up on what’s been happening….

Planes, Canes, and Automobiles

My publisher, Greenleaf, is located in Austin, TX.

I finished principal writing in January and since then the book has gone through several rounds of copy editing and Greenleaf Book Group, my publisher, is conducting the final proofread.

Thank you to all TWAP readers who voted on the four cover designs submitted by Greenleaf for consideration. Although I’ve shared this before, in case you missed it, here is the final selection:

The next phase after selecting the cover was finalizing the interior lay-out: things like fonts, chapter headings, any graphics, etc. Take a peek at the internal lay-out and design of a few of the pages:

Mom doesn’t know I’m dedicating the book to her! This is a picture from when she was visiting me in NYC (to film the Momentum magazine piece on Travel with Aging Parents).

I love the design element at the start of each chapter – it looks like the pinpoint from Google maps (or a compass). LOVE it!

And here we go ladies and gentlemen – the content of the book! Woo hoo!! 248 pages total.

Several weeks ago I also approved what’s called an Advanced Reader Copy (commonly referred to as an “ARC”) that is sent to distributors and buyers (such as Barnes & Noble) who will decide if they want to carry the book. When I came home from a business trip to Helena, MT late Thursday night, look what was waiting for me:

Planes Canes and Automobiles

A large heavy box was waiting for me when I returned from a trip to Montana and alas, what did I find?!? My ARCs!

Planes Canes and Automobiles

Crazy fun to see my name on the spine of the book!

And finally, here is the front and back cover with all the selling and marketing details to help distributors decide if they wish to purchase my book:

The ARC front cover. Greenleaf, my publisher, indicated the colors on the final book will be even more vibrant!

Note the back cover has pricing, marketing and other information on purchasing the book. The final cover will obviously omit that stuff.

Next up: the Marketing campaign kicks into high gear!
